During the cold winter months, I normally rely on my furnace to keep a comfortable temperature inside my house.

• The winter of this year, however, has been a brutal one.

When the cold weather hit, I forgot to service my furnace, so it stopped working when the cold weather hit. It couldn’t have happened at a more inconvenient time. As I called a heating and air conditioning company to have them come out and service my furnace during the cold winter months, they were all booked up, so I was unable to reach them. My furnace broke during the cold winter months, but maybe I wasn’t the only one. Also, I wouldn’t need an emergency HVAC service since I have a backup heating system. I purchased a space heater from my local heating and air conditioning business last year and have kept it stored away all year just waiting for the right time to use it. Because my heating is so reliable, I didn’t expect to use it, but now that it broke down, it was the perfect time to put it to use. Although it only heated one room, it did an excellent job so I did not have to pay any expensive HVAC emergency repair fees during the winter months. The next year, I will make sure to schedule an appointment with my local HVAC company so I don’t have to go through the hassle of having my heater break down when I really need it.

I didn’t think I would ever have to use it because normally my friend is so reliable, but now that it has broken down it was a perfect time to try it out and see if it would work well. I grew up in a town with city water and plumbing.

When I flushed the toilet or ran the faucet, water was coming from the street.

All of the sewage and waste was going down into the gutters and to the water treatment plant. When I bought a lake house in the country, I was not prepared for the plumbing issues that would occur. I had a septic tank, well, and water pump and anytime there were issues with the septic I had to call a plumbing business. Thankfully, my sibling works as a full-time plumber and the guy has genuinely saved me thousands of dollars since I bought this unit. One of the largest issues turned out to be an issue with the sewage pipe, which was a complication nearly 23 feet from our home. I helped my sibling dig up the yard so all of us could find the blockage and it turned out to be a bunch of sludge and baby diapers. The two of us didn’t have a baby in the house, so we knew that the diapers were there from the previous homeowner. I have never seen such a disgusting mess in my life and I was really thankful to have my sibling there to help. A professional plumbing supplier would have genuinely charged me $1,200 or more for the same exact task that my sibling and I completed together. I wish I had another sibling that was a car mechanic, as I have some repairs that need to be completed and I know it’s going to cost $1,200. It would be great to have someone in the family that could help with our cars.

My wife and I had some pretty disappointing issues with drainage in the master bath, then I thought it was due to a jammed pipe in the shower, as occasionally hair can get into the drain line and cause major plumbing clogs.

I used a cheap plumbing snake to remove any hair or build up inside of the drain, but there wasn’t a lot of stuff that came out of the drain.

There was a little bit of hair, dirt, and pieces of soap yet it didn’t seem as if it was enough stuff to cause a major drainage problem. After a few days, all of us had drainage issues in other sites in the house and I noticed when the dishwasher backed up into the sink and it took a really long time for the washing machine to drain too. I decided it was a great idea to contact a plumbing supplier that specialized in drainage issues. I contacted the plumbing supplier and gave them some information about the issues all of us were having and the person on the line said it sounded as if tree branches might be causing issues in the drain line. When the plumbing supplier came out to check our home, the first thing they did was use a camera to check on the numerous parts of the plumbing located under the house. The camera was a great way to find the complication without digging up our entire yard. The camera showed a blockage 25 feet from our front door. The licensed plumbing business thought it was tree roots, so he dug up the section of the yard where the complication was supposed to be. And it did turn out to be a substantial root from the oak tree in the front yard that was causing all of our issues.

My coworkers and I were sitting in the office on a Thursday when the sprinkler unit abruptly started running.

There was no alarm for a fire and usually the alarm rings and it has to go off for a few minutes before the water sprinkler proposal comes on.

The boss came out of his office and he was wet as well. The sprinklers were spraying water everywhere and it was getting on all of the electronics and all of our personal items. The boss asked us to use anything we had available to cover our office equipment and so I put the monitor and keyboard underneath the iPad desk. I didn’t guess that both of us would have a flood, so I figured that stuff was safe under the desk instead of on top of it. The people I was with and I needed to contact an emergency commercial plumbing repair company very fast. The office manager came out of his office and he told all of us to go home early for the afternoon. He then contacted an emergency plumbing service, but they weren’t going to be able to shut off the sprinklers until the fire marshal arrived. The next day, everyone came back to the office and things seemed to be normal. Other than some damp and wet papers and files, the office looked exactly like it did the previous day. The sprinklers must not have been running for much longer after both of us left, because the carpet wasn’t saturated either. The emergency plumbing repair company must have worked very fast and diligently to repair the sprinkler problem before everything in the office was a wet mess.

But clearly those items didn’t come from my husband and I, so the clog must have been there for a long time.

My husband and I did not really know the first thing about home ownership when both of us signed the papers on our first house. The people I was with and I were so gleeful to qualify for a home and both of us found the perfect site for the gaggle of us to start a family. After a few years, both of us started to have some troubles around the condo that we just could not repair on our own. One major problem was with the plumbing, as both of the showers drained very slowly. Even though the drains appeared to be clean as a whistle, the drains were still moving slowly. The toilet wasn’t flushing very well in the master lavatory either so I found a plumbing company locally that serviced emergency residential and commercial repairs. I made an appointment with the plumbing company and the plumbing company was a young guy that was very helpful and informative. He explained every step of the process and let my lovely husband and I watch as he worked. There was an issue in the red line as there were some legos, army men, and paper towels that were blocking the drain line. But clearly those items didn’t come from my husband and I, so the clog must have been there for a long time. The plumber cleared everything and gave us a 90-day warranty. He also gave us his card so both of us could call him in the future if we had any other plumbing company needs. The group of us all still keep that card handy, just in case we have issues. I was going to call last week, despite the fact that I figured out how to install the garbage disposal on my own.

I needed to Google how to use them and proper posture to avoid injury

I live too far from an organized gym to make a membership worthwhile. The weather in my local area makes it just about impossible to workout outside. I’ve needed to set up a home gym. I am fortunate that I have a decent sized room that I can devote entirely to my exercise equipment. There’s plenty of room for a couple of bigger machines. I can still have enough square footage to go through different series of jumping jacks, mountain climbers, squats and lunges. I’ve invested into an incline bench that doesn’t take up much space yet increases the intensity and benefits of doing crunches. I’m able to easily adjust the severity of the incline and target both upper and lower abdominal muscles. I’ve added a miniature trampoline that provides a great cardio workout without hard impact on my joints. I can increase my heart rate and work my lungs but avoid aches and pains in my ankles, knees and feet. The trampoline is very small yet I can perform a wide variety of exercises on it. Every time I buy a new piece of equipment, it renews my excitement and motivation. I tend to work harder and longer. I get more out of the training session. When I added kettlebells, I couldn’t wait to mess around with them. When I bought a new jump rope, I jumped every single day for two weeks. I recently purchased a set of battle ropes. I needed to Google how to use them and proper posture to avoid injury. They are extremely exhausting yet really rewarding.
