Your Heating & Cooling

My weekly routine consists of going to school, my dad going to work, and turning off the control component before we leave the house. As part of his efforts to cut costs, he has come up with this strategy. The money he makes at the auto shop isn’t much, but it’s enough to keep the bills paid. My dad is considering taking on additional employment, which would be bad for me because it would mean less time with him. This also means I’ll be spending more time with Uncle Louie and no thanks. My Uncle is a wonderful guy, but his loft looks like something out of a hoarder documentary series. The whole thing is disgusting. I got picked up by my dad and driven home from school. Sporadically he takes me out to a restaurant, but it’s not actually often, and he usually prefers to cook at home because it saves money. I can tell you that he isn’t a wonderful cook either. The dwelling is like an ice box when we return on freezing winter time afternoons. Because it is so cold, I have to turn on the heater to make our loft comfortable for my dad and me. I’ve been urging him to update the heating and air conditioning system and maybe even a smart control component for some time now. Then we can leave school and work and turn on the heating and air conditioning system on our way back. He has told me countless times that he would be unable to spend money for the services of a professional heating and air conditioning tech to install a new heating and air conditioning unit. He did tell me if he is able to afford it, then it would be close to the top of his list of things to get done.

Sadly, the rest of my dwelling has freezing wooden flooring, and I have complaints from family and friends that they don’t want to leave my washroom because their feet are so toasty

A steaming warm shower before labor is one of my favorite things about the afternoon. I’m a person who thrives on early days and takes wonderful pride in beating almost everyone else to the office and getting up early as well. Because of this, I am able to avoid the horrible traffic and still be able to make my doctor’s appointments. Our highway has experienced at least one major accident every week for the past two months. People are just insane, so I try to stay away from them as much as possible. Along with my piping warm showers in the day, I also get to cherish the most exquisite radiant heated floors imaginable, but choosing to have a heating expert from the heating and air conditioning company come out and install the radiant heated floors was a smart move. With the recent freezing weather outside, this has been a wonderful addition to my home. My 4 in the day wake-up is now filled with warmth. When I get loft from work, periodically all I want to do is take a shower and then rest in awe of my radiant floor heater. If you don’t already have radiant heated floors, you need to get them! Also, the washroom is the perfect arena to start. Sadly, the rest of my dwelling has freezing wooden flooring, and I have complaints from family and friends that they don’t want to leave my washroom because their feet are so toasty. One of them recommended relocating a table and tv in there, but I was upset about invasions of personal space if I needed to use the restroom. So far, installing radiant heated floors in my washroom has been the best financial decision I have ever made. I feel I might do my bedroom next!

My mom married a guy whose daughter must be a polar bear.

She has a mysterious attraction for subzero temperatures. I can picture her enjoying the outdoors when winter time arrives and lounging in front of the air conditioning system in the height of summer. I have no control over the control component and must rely on her judgment. It stinks, cause my mom can stop it even though she won’t. My mom has slightly complained about the electricity bill because it has skyrocketed during the summer time because it’s on all afternoon. I asked my mom if we could get a smart control component but my mom is old school and getting her to talk to her partner is not a thought in her mind. I always see my step-sister checking to see if the air conditioning is on. Her dad has a heating and air conditioning worker come to the dwelling every few months to look at the heating and air conditioning system to make sure it is working efficiently enough for his little angel. I can see my mom at times get a little distraught when it comes to the air conditioning worker coming to the dwelling every so often. I overheard the cooling specialist request that they enroll in a service plan to save money. My mom said she’ll have to talk to her partner about it and I know my mom won’t. For some odd reason, she doesn’t care that much but I can tell seeing a stranger every couple of months does bother her. I just wish my mom spoke up a bit because I’m freezing and I feel I’m not heard because Daddy’s little angel has control of the heating and air conditioning unit.

Eugene is the building service worker for our large office complex.

He was given the job to wash the heating and air conditioning ducts, Eugene had never done anything like this before, he assumed it would be easy.

In order for him to get started, he climbed to the ceiling and unlocked the ducts. He began to perspire as he stared into the complex heating and air conditioning ductwork, knowing he had no idea where to start. Trouble soon found him, soon after looking down into one of the vents, he saw a small mouse peeking out. Eugene saw the mouse look at him, its nose twitched, and then it darted off into the network of pipes. Eugene suddenly had a wonderful idea. He decided to pursue the mouse into the ventilation system. He wasted no time in entering the duct and beginning his pursuit of the mouse. He had to get on his belly and crawl through the narrow duct. He continued to creep along behind the mouse as it darted through the ventilation system. Eugene was so absorbed in his pursuit of the mouse that he failed to notice he had crawled past the exit. A loud noise erupted suddenly from behind him. When he turned around, the door had closed securely behind him. Our building service worker got stuck in the air conditioning ducts! His anxiety level rose and he shouted for assistance, but no one heard him. He had been trapped in the ducts for hours before the fire department finally arrived to free him. In order for them to free Eugene, they had to cut a hole in the duct. Eugene learned a hard lesson this week but it’s a story I’ll remember forever.

My neighbor owned a small heating and air conditioning company, he delighted his customers and was a wonderful guy.

He got a lot of air conditioning repair calls this past summer.

Oddly, almost everyone’s A/C broke down. A buyer with A/C problems called my neighbor one afternoon. He did his job and evaluated the heating and air conditioning component at their house. It was an older model, and he could tell it had better afternoons. It was beyond repair. My neighbor felt compelled to assist the sad customer. He recommended they update to a new component and recommended one of his top-of-the-line air conditioning products. My neighbor persuaded the buyer that it would be more efficient and save them money. They approved the update, and my neighbor started working. He inspected the new component after installing it. The buyer loved the results. The new air conditioning kept the dwelling cool, even in the hottest part of the afternoon and it was much quieter than the old one. They thanked him and said they’ll command him to their friends. As word spread about my friend’s heating and air conditioning business, he was getting more calls. He needed and had hired a few more people to help with the workload and expanded his heating and air conditioning company. His customers loved being able to get everything they needed from one arena, so he started selling heat and A/C products. His business grew over the years. He was the heating and air conditioning expert in the area. He never forgot his roots and always made sure his customers were delighted. He even created a scholarship for local heating and air conditioning students. It was his way of thanking our community.

The Millers owned a small family business that sold and installed A/C products for homes and businesses. They had a wonderful reputation and a successful business, one afternoon a local shop’s A/C component broke down. The temperatures rose suddenly, making it impossible for workers to concentrate at the shop! Jack knew the owner had to call the heating and air conditioning repairman guy instantly. When Mr. Miller showed up he knew instantly what the problem was. The A/C unit’s compressor was broken. The compressor, which Mr. Miller described as the “heart, ” needed to be replaced for the A/C component to be repaired. Jack was delighted that Mr. Miller would be able to repair it, but what about the cost? Mr. Miller gave him a bid and Jack was pleasantly surprised by the cost and how affordable it was; It didn’t take Mr. Miller long but the air conditioning component was back up and running again. The staff was severely delighted as the cool air began to flow through the air vents. Jack thanked Mr. Miller but was looking to do some updates since it has been forever and the current heating and air conditioning system that he has should be replaced sooner rather than later. Mr. Miller understood the importance of having a wonderful heating and air conditioning system, especially for the shop that Jack owns so he said he’ll do a complete look over his heating and air conditioning system although he doesn’t feel that Jack has to worry about anything for another few years. Jack knew he could trust Mr. Miller long before that afternoon and made sure to have Mr. Miller come to look at his heating and air conditioning system once again the following year.

I thought that since I had good grades in HVAC class and graduated at the head of my class, I would breeze right through being an HVAC technician. I thought it would be easy to work as an HVAC technician, but it wasn’t. No one said being an HVAC technician would be easy, so I don’t know why I had that idea in mind. I still had a lot to learn after I got certified. I was now going from being book smart to real life learning. I had hands-on training, but it was in controlled areas. I was soon dealing with people, animals and kids and not just dealing with an HVAC system that was clean and had controlled breaks and problems. Once the problem was found, we had to fix it, but it was a new HVAC system. My first job as an apprentice was in an air conditioning unit. There were two kids in the yard, and they were playing with their cat. I never realized how distracting a kid or a cat could be. The air conditioning unit was in standing water, and it had weeds all over it. I didn’t want to work in the AC unit, but I had no choice. If I wanted to keep my apprenticeship, I had to do whatever job they gave me. Then I had to service a furnace. Did you know some people have open cesspools in their basement? I was told to beware of the hole in the corner, and I had thought they were kidding. I am still an HVAC technician, but my trainer has never let me forget about the basement with the cesspool and how he had to keep me from drowning in it.

I know some people swear by the advertisements they see on television.

I have heard that people wouldn’t advertise so wildly if they didn’t have a good business.

On the other hand, I have heard that people who advertise too much, are trying to sell a lesser product. I didn’t know which it was, but it was interesting to watch the HVAC company’s advertising. They made it sound like a career as an HVAC technician was not just gainful employment, but it was fun. If I hadn’t already been considering HVAC as a career, I would be now. I didn’t know who I wanted to work for, because I hadn’t yet started classes. I felt the time to look for an employer was if or when I got my HVAC certification. I was still a month away from taking my first class. When I did finally start classes, I enjoyed the instructor, and he told us he was the owner of one of the local HVAC companies. When he started talking about taking the top HVAC technician in the class as an apprentice in his HVAC company, I vowed I was going to get that apprenticeship. I didn’t know if I was going to fulfill the vow I made to myself, but I had to do the best I could do. I didn’t get the number one position in class, but I was number. Halfway through our HVAC training, our instructor introduced another instructor who was going to take half the class while we did our hands-on training. I came out number one in that class and got an apprenticeship with the new HVAC instructor.

I asked my dad if he knew who wrote the jingle for the HVAC company? I had been hearing it repeatedly, and it was quite catchy. I hummed it when I was in the car, or sitting in class. I thought whoever had written the jingle knew what they were doing. You wanted to check out the HVAC company, and I even began thinking i may want to be an HVAC technician in the future. Dad told me he did not know who wrote the HVAC company jingle, but if I was really interested, I might find out from someone who worked there. I watched for the commercial, so I could know exactly what HVAC company had the commercial. Not only did it have the name of the HVAC company, and the phone number, but it had some other information. The address of the HVAC company was also on the ad. I went to the HVAC company and told them I heard their commercial and wanted to know who wrote the jingle. The HVAC company owner asked if I liked it. I told him it was catchy, and I thought it would be cool to know who wrote it. Whoever wrote it, was an advertising genius. He told me his wife wrote it, and he thought she was a genius. While Iwas there, I asked if they were looking for HVAC technicians. He asked if I was certified? I told him I was considering going to HVAC school after hearing their company jingle. He laughed and told me if I ever got certified, he would be the first HVAC company owner to offer me a job.

I thought that if you wanted to go to HVAC school and get your certification, all you needed to do was sign up for classes. I was going there so I could get a job, and somehow I mistakenly thought the HVAC company I worked for would pay for the school. In one way, I was right in the way the HVAC company would pay for my school, but it wasn’t right away. If I got through my apprenticeship, I would get a higher pay and end up making money to recoup what I had spent in school. I just couldn’t go in and have them pay for my classes. The only way that happened was if my dad owned the HVAC company, or if I previously worked for the HVAC company before going to school. You had to have an ‘in’ with the HVAC company if you expected them to pay for your HVAC certification. I didn’t realize how expensive HVAC school was until I signed up for the classes. I had to pay up front, and the only way I could do that was if my dad helped me with the tuition. I went home and told him I was interested in being an HVAC technician. He asked how much it was going to cost, and I told him. He asked how much money I had in the bank, and all I could say was that I didn’t have enough. When I went back to the school the next Monday, dad went with me. He told me he would pay the rest of the tuition, but I had to promise I would do all his HVAC work for a year.
