Once I learned how much energy goes towards my HVAC system, I vowed to make sure it runs efficiently.

The last talk with my HVAC tech when I visited their HVAC business store in town challenged me to do better.

He was kind enough to share with me some stats in the HVAC industry. I was doing research for my company and our area of interest was cooling and heating energy needs. This research was such an eye opener that I purpose to support the efficient running of my HVAC equipment from then on. I discovered that most homeowners have to pay high electric bills just because they are not keen about regular HVAC maintenance. One of the things I do to make sure this does not happen to me is clean my HVAC unit’s filters. This has the capacity to increase my unit’s efficiency by up to 15%. I often set reminders so I never forget to change the filters. All I needed was to have my air conditioning service provider to show me how to do this properly. I also ensure no obstructions around the central heating unit. Air conditioners and heating systems need to have proper airflow at all times to avoid overworking the unit. I regularly check and remove obstructions caused by dust, pet fur, and furniture. I also have the AC’s fuses changed every few months. Since the HVAC system outlasts the fuses, every time during routine HVAC maintenance schedules, I ensure the HVAC professional checks and replaces fuses if needed. I am also very careful when I open and close blinds. Whenever it is too hot outside, I have the blinds closed to prevent heat from getting into the hose and overworking the AC. During winter, I take advantage of the sun and open my curtains to let in the heat to support my furnace heating. These simple but practical measures have helped me keep my home comfortable without having to break the bank.

After a long debate with my HVAC provider, I finally gave in and agreed to replace the heating and cooling unit in my house.

I had inherited the house from grandpa and wanted to keep most things as original since the house was generational.

Unfortunately, the HVAC technology from over 5 decades ago was just not working today. The winters were especially too cold despite having a boiler in the house. Most of the time, we had to supplement the heating with portable heaters for each room. This was becoming too expensive. We would also have to light the wooden chimney to keep the living room warm and this was becoming cumbersome. Summers were not any better as the AC would strain to keep the space cool. The fans did not make anything easier. When all interventions to save my HVAC system failed, we settled on buying a new one. The heating technician advised on a central heating unit. The central HVAC system would be perfect for the old house with minimal changes to be done. The HVAC equipment also had excellent cooling capabilities that would work in summer. The HVAC professional had the unit installed perfectly. He then explained that the unit may be new, but only proper HVAC maintenance would make it serve me optimally. He came up with the ideal air conditioner service plan I needed to follow. I was supposed to change filters every two weeks. Additionally, I needed to replace the fuse, remove any obstructions from the unit, and also monitor the thermostat. He suggested paying attention to the unit and calling a HVAC tech if something seemed off. I had to note down dates of regular professional maintenance service which would happen twice in a year. I had my work cut out for me but I was glad the system worked well.

I finally decided to help my friends deal with their constant complaints of high heating and cooling costs.

Surprisingly, I rarely had such complaints and they always wondered what was unique about my house. This way, I have managed to keep the HVAC system working efficiently all seasons. I also never worry about the cost of cooling or heating my home since the HVAC unit works optimally with no strain. I have my HVAC tech and general HVAC business to thank for this. Besides the help I get from the HVAC professionals, I also handle some of the maintenance myself. Ensuring my thermostat is correctly set, and changing filters regularly have also helped.

We had a conversation with my younger brother over the weekend.

For the past few months, I have been considering having it replaced. The HVAC equipment seems to be slowing down and not working no matter how hard I try to keep up with the maintenance. Since my brother was a HVAC technician, I managed to get him to visit me on one of his weekends. Usually, he is busy all week since he is an excellent HVAC serviceman who is often sought after. I was grateful that he was finally here to help me make the final decision. After checking the HVAC system thoroughly, he was impressed at how well maintained it was. He saw no need for a HVAC installation yet. His assessment revealed that my unit was still perfect and would serve me at least for the next five years. We sat down to analyze where I was making mistakes. Surprisingly, he brought up the curtains and blinds. I always had these open for fresh air. My brother suggested closing blinds in hot summer to help prevent the sun from warming the house. This way I would reduce the cooling load on my HVAC system. He also suggested that I open them on winter days, especially when the sun was out to help warm the house naturally and reduce the burden on the heating unit or furnace. Nothing he said made much sense to me until I tried it and saw the change on my energy bills. This was a pleasant surprise but it works and is worth trying.

He suspected that there could be more issues that need professional intervention so heater maintenance was needed.

Air conditioning repair

I was already paying too much for rent in my small apartment. It was within walking distance of the university plus my work, which is the only reason I got the apartment. The worst part of it all was that I could not even afford to drive my car because of my apartment. I was stuck with walking everywhere I wanted to go. When the air conditioning broke down, the proprietor decided he would not service it. If my pal and I wanted to have air conditioning, my pal and I were welcome to buy one, since my pal and I paid our own electric bills. All I could afford was a portable air conditioning unit. I thought it would be great. I could put it in whatever room I was in, however it didn’t work that well. After a couple of hours, I had cool air in the room, however it was humid air. I wanted air conditioning that kept me comfortable, plus not feeling worse. I took the air conditioner back to the house center, however they would not take it back. They said I had opened it plus used it. If I wanted my money back, it had to be in an unopened box, or I had to show proof that it was broken, and just being unhappy with the air conditioner wasn’t a great reason for returning it. I had to call the manufacturer, however all they told me was they would send me a coupon, however it was for the same air conditioner I already had. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do about air conditioning, although I was sure I would not sign another lease for that apartment.
