Why do businesses crank the thermostat?

If you go to a steakhouse or to the films in the summer, prepare to be blasted with AC; To make people comfortable the cooling system gets cranked, i am used to bringing a jacket and always being a little chilly indoors, then when I went on a trip to a country known for being cold, I figured I would be at the right temperature.

I packed jackets and pants because the outdoors would be in the 50s.

I packed our thermal PJs and was ready for the cold. Well that country is like here in that the thermostat is up to make people comfortable. The whole country was ridiculous about heating, anytime I walked into a steakhouse I was just covered in sweat to death. I would peel off all our layers and sweat in our T-shirt and pants. The hotels were ridiculous about their gas gas furnaces too. I opened windows, messed with the thermostat and even complained to the front desk about the heater. I had to sleep in our bra and underwear the whole trip. I found that even the fitness center in the gym was way warmer than what I was used to… Do businesses just not think how to regularly set a thermostat? Why does it have to be severe heating or cooling? Why can’t they set a company thermostat like they would their own home? I don’t assume anyone is comfortable with a 60 degree setting or an 75 degree setting… Someone is either frosty or covered in sweat in their business. It made me not want to go back to those businesses.
