I was working in an air conditioning component last week. The homeowners had planned a celebration for that afternoon. Instead of having myself and others show up the following afternoon or the afternoon before, they agreed to my arriving today. The celebration was in full swing when I arrived. The music was so loud & distracting that I was making more mistakes than I had ever made. I was torn between asking them to turn the music down & leaving to choice up some parts. I knew I would not need any parts, but I also would get nothing done with balls flying, adolescents screaming, & music so loud I could not concentrate. I walked over to the repair van, & no 1 noticed. I called the shop & told them what was going on. I needed to vent to someone, & who better than the Heating & Air Conditioning supplier boss? He asked if I had said anything, however no 1 even realized I was there. It was as if I was invisible. The boss told myself and others to come back to the Heating & Air Conditioning dealer. He had an program & it just may work. All of us had an Heating & Air Conditioning worker who had a hearing defect. Without his hearing aid, he could not hear a thing. He was going to call Joe & ask if he would do the A/C repair, since the loud music & people would not bother him. Two minutes later, Joe showed up at the Heating & Air Conditioning supplier & told us he had finished the air conditioning repair. No 1 noticed he wasn’t the original Heating & Air Conditioning worker, or that he was gone for nearly an minute.
