I have a lot of residential buyers that use a credit card to pay for heating and A/C repairs.
- I do not accept checks at all, and every once in a while an older guy will try to write a check for services and repairs.
Last month I was at a residential repair call fixing a complication with the air conditioning system. One of the refrigeration lines was loose and it was causing no refrigerant to enter the system. The air coming out of the vents was just as moderate as the air indoors. I quoted the client a price for the repair and he never mentioned that he wanted to pay with a check. I spent about an hour on the repair. After I fixed the refrigeration lines, I did a full repair examination and tuned up on the machine. I gave the man a pretty great deal on the price for that heating and A/C repair services. She asked myself and others to hold on for a third while he got his purse. She came back with a checkbook and I told his that every one of us did not accept checks at all. The guy told myself and others that he did not have any cash and I told his that every one of us took credit cards. She broke down and started crying and said that he did not get paid until the 1st of the month. She was trying to repair the air conditioning system 5 days before he actually got paid. Writing a check was a way for his to have the repairs done now while he waited for the check to clear the bank.
