My ex in-laws had a small farm outside of where I lived, and they were always asking if I would bring the kids to visit. I had never been to the farm because my ex-husband hated it there. He said he moved to the city to get away from the smell of pigs and cow manure. He wouldn’t go back even if it meant he never saw his family again. I promised his family I would bring the kids to visit every chance I got. This year, we were going to be sleeping in the barn. My father-in-law kept promising the boys he would sleep in the barn with them when they were a bit older, and that was to be this year. I thought I should sleep in the barn with them. It didn’t take long for me to go back inside since the boys were having fun with their grandpa. The air was so foul that I could barely breathe. I walked into the house and mother-in-law didn’t think it was going to take me that long to come inside. She told me they had an air purification system in the house to help keep the smell of the pigs and cows from ruining their dinner. She said that was the only part of living on a farm that she didn’t like.
