I have a lot of trouble with migraine headaches.
It’s not unusual for me to wake up in the morning with such a bad headache that I can’t get out of bed.
My headaches make me sensitive to light and sound. They can become so painful that I vomit. For a while, I was trying different types of medication. I didn’t like the way the prescription medication made me feel, and I was very concerned about long-term side-effects. I decided to explore more natural remedies. As I’ve experimented with herbal teas, lavender sprays and a variety of vitamins, I’ve figured out that the majority of my headaches are caused by dehydration. I’ve learned that I can prevent or lessen the severity of the headaches by drinking more water, eating healthy and exercising. I have eliminated soda pop, coffee, saturated fats, processed foods and fast foods from my diet. I rarely drink alcohol and avoid most sweets. I now get up in the morning and workout for an hour. On the days when my head throbs, I need to start very slow. I extend the warmup and incorporate a great deal of stretching. Sometimes my headache worsens. Most of the time, it goes away. A high intensity cardio workout where I get breathing hard, increase my heart rate and sweat profusely is the best medicine. At the end of the training session, I usually feel great. The headache is gone and I enjoy a better mood and more energy. I’m more productive for the rest of the day. I think it also helps that I make an effort to drink a great deal of water while I exercise.
