Momma had been living with us for almost a year before she had her heart attack.

The doctor told us it was a mild heart attack, but they wanted to keep her overnight, just for observance.

He said it was possible for her to have a major heart attack within 24 hours after the first, and he wanted her in the hospital just in case. We left her to their care, promising to return the next morning. I wasn’t intending to bring her home the next morning, but she begged. They had a bathroom in her room with nothing but a curtain for privacy. You could smell the bathrooms from the other rooms, because the only thing separating her from the rest of the hospital was another curtain. There was no air circulation, and the room smelled. The air conditioning wasn’t working, and it was hot and sweaty, which added to the smell. The only place I could feel air conditioning was at the nurse’s station. I got a wheelchair and put mom in it, then I wheeled her out to the nurse’s desk, where it was cooler. I called the doctor and told him to get his butt there. I had the DON downstairs and the head of housekeeping all standing in mom’s ‘room’. I told them the hospital was supposed to be a place to rest and get healthy. Without air purification, clean rooms, and good HVAC, this was a place that was breeding germs and making people more sickly. I packed mom up and took her out of the hospital.

It was still early fall, but the temperatures were near freezing, and we had to turn the furnace on.

Two years earlier, we had some remodeling done in our home, and the only thing the contractor did we hadn’t requested was to remove the fireplace.

I knew the fireplace needed some work, but I would have rather had it repaired than removed. Unfortunately, we weren’t there when they removed the fireplace, or my husband would have stopped them. Now, instead of using the fireplace on these cool days, we had to use the furnace. Neither of us had thought to check the oil in the tank when we turned the furnace on. I was thinking we had the oil tank filled early in the spring, and it should still be filled, but I wasn’t thinking how the boiler furnace also heated our water. We had gone through almost a full tank of oil over the last six months. When we turned the furnace on, it ran for the next two weeks, until the weather warmed up a bit. The next time we turned the furnace on, we knew it wouldn’t be turned off until late spring. The furnace thought differently. We had it on this time, for two days, and the furnace stopped. I called the HVAC company, and they sent someone to the house within 24 hours. It took him less than five minutes to tell us the furnace wouldn’t run without fuel. I was embarrassed, but I still picked up the phone and call the fuel company while my husband paid the HVAC technician for his time.

When mom and dad first got married, they lived in a cabin on the mountain.

While us kids were growing up, we used it as a hunting cabin or a getaway spot.

As mom got older, the cabin became neglected, and it wasn’t being used. Dad was talking about selling the cabin, but I wanted it. He told me the cabin needed to be inspected, repairs made, and cleaned before anyone could have it. My husband and I volunteered to go up there and check it out. The first thing we noticed was that someone had broken into the house and was using it. There was debris everywhere and burnt wood in the fireplace. This worried me, because I had noted how the chimney appeared to be crumbling as we walked up to the door. I was upset over the damage that had been done, but no one had been here for almost three years. Once we made a list of all repairs, including the chimney and fireplace, we started cleaning. I called the local HVAC company and asked about having a mini split ductless HVAC system installed. I also asked if they knew of a fireplace and chimney repair company. They gave me the information and said they could send an HVAC contractor to the cabin the following day. In the meantime, we finished the cleaning and set the furniture to rights. Luckily, the furniture wasn’t damaged, but moved out of the way, like someone was camping in front of the fireplace. I wondered if someone wasn’t using it as a home when they had to get out of the cold.

Our family uses the mountain cabin all year round. If it is a weekend, there is probably someone in the cabin. During big holidays, the entire family goes to the cabin and enjoys the holiday together. The cabin sleeps twenty people, and there are three master suites. There are two sleeping rooms, and each of them has four sets of bunk beds, with double beds on the bottom and single beds on top. There is a bathroom for each suite and bunkroom. We have ductless HVAC in the cabin, so you don’t need to turn the heating or air conditioning on for every room. When my husband and I go up, or my mom and dad, we only need one bedroom heated or cooled. Ductless HVAC makes it easy to turn off every other HVAC system and not waste electricity. We also have a fireplace in the family area. I wanted to clean the fireplace to get it ready for Christmas, the last time my husband and I were there. I didn’t think about checking the flue before poking the chimney brush inside. The soot came flying out, and my face, clothing, and everything else on me was covered in black soot. My husband heard my yelp and turned around. I told him not to laugh, because it wasn’t funny, but that didn’t stop him. He had to take a picture of me with the fireplace soot covering me from head to toe and send it to my family. I was glad we had the hot water turned on. I took a shower with all my clothing on and then one with them off.

Well, I just had my 50th birthday a month ago and the immense reveal was my present.

My wifey was sort of being a bit odd this summer. There were times where she wanted myself and others to call before I left the zone controlled Heating plus A/C of the office to come home. It wasn’t to pick something up from the store or go grab a child from some hobby. She just didn’t want myself and others to simply show up at home. That seemed absolutely curious to me. That’s when I figured something was up. Well, I just had my 50th birthday a month ago and the immense reveal was my present. My wifey and kids had created myself and others a person cave in the basement complete with a ductless heat pump of my absolutely own. They decorated it absolutely cool with my alma mater memorabilia and cool pictures and neat stuff on the wall. There was a bar and a sizable TV along with several recliners and a couch. It’s going to be a wonderful pigskin season this year!

I’m simply loving the fact that the people I was with and I are almost to the finish line when it comes to summer time around here.

This is the time of year each end of summer time that I’m starting to breathe a bit of a sigh of relief.

I’m not getting cocky quite yet because the a/c is still running night and day. We’re not out of the woods but things are changing. Just going out outside of the central a/c first thing in the day reflects a change. I’m up absolutely early and I love to take my coffee on the deck. This is the first time in several months that I don’t hear a symphony of heat pumps at that time of the day. It’s now getting cool enough while in that time of the day that there is no need for Heating plus A/C cooling. That’s a wonderful sign and means that the people I was with and I are closing in on a wrap for this edition of heat season. That doesn’t hurt my feeling at all. I prefer the next 8 months so much because it’s a combination of wonderful weather and appealing weather conditions. Our winters hardly even need any Heating plus A/C heating. So the best weather of the year is on the way. But I’m also content to report that just by following some self-explanatory, step by step plans from the Heating plus A/C business website, I saved a bunch this summer. It absolutely didn’t take much effort and negligible expense to save nearly 25 percent on Heating plus A/C cooling over past summers. So a bit of effort went a absolutely long way when it comes the Heating plus A/C cooling costs this year.

Honestly, the condition of my garage was simply a disgrace.

And I actually had nobody to blame but myself.

It’s kind of 1 of those deals where it’s death by a million cuts & nicks. When all of us bought this house, I was so thrilled just to have a garage. Well really, I was super ecstatic just to be in a apartment with our own Heating, Ventilation, & A/C equipment. Since graduating college & getting married, my partner & I had to go the rental route. That route came with some pretty inferior heating & cooling to be quite frank. So having our own arena was such a big deal for us. And having a garage was sort of the topper. That garage was awesome & I kept it neatly organized. However, the kids started coming along & the garage ended up being a bit of a dumping ground really. It’s savor if all of us couldn’t find a arena for something, it went out to the garage. And a decade of this routine & I was embarrassed to even open the garage door. So I didn’t. Finally during the pandemic, I took the time to take back the garage. Once I was able to get stuff tossed, organize the rest & clean the arena, I was ecstatic to have my garage back. I ended up spending much more time out there working on stuff & just making that sort of a me space. That’s what led me to call the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C professionals. I now have a ductless heat pump in the garage that provides me with great heating & cooling.

So much for thinking that replacing the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C equipment was going to be a large headache.

• This wasn’t the case at all as the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C professionals were on top of every detail from the jump.

This all started early last Springtime. The Heating, Ventilation, & A/C contractor comes out in the fall & in the Springtime to perform Heating, Ventilation, & A/C service on the heat pump. Really, I call the fall appointment the post summer time rehab for the heat pump. Where all of us live, the heat pump is jamming for four weeks during the summer time weeks. It’s running night & day in order to provide the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C cooling that all of us need to manage the summer time heat & humidity. So when the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C serviceman told us that the heat pump was maybe not going to make it through another heat season, I wasn’t taking any chances. I instantly started the process of having the heat pump unfastend & replaced. But I wasn’t ecstatic about it because I just don’t like hassles savor this sort of stuff. The first meeting with the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C professionals changed all of that though. The Heating, Ventilation, & A/C contractor came out to our apartment to inspect & listen to my partner & I when it came to our heating & cooling needs. From there, he provided several choices of current residential Heating, Ventilation, & A/C for us. Once all of us chose the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C unit, they literally maintained everything else. The people I was with and I had current heating & cooling equipment in less than 6 weeks. That’s what I call a hassle free Heating, Ventilation, & A/C experience. And I’m all about less stress & less hassle when it comes to life.

I was stunned to see my spouse walk right into the zone controlled Heating, Ventilation plus A/C of where I work. Immediately, my mind sort of went to panic mode because this was highly, highly unrespected for him to come to my office. And to show up unannounced was pretty much unheard of really. But my instant near freak out melted away pretty hastily when I saw his face. Not only was he beaming plus looking right at me, he looked legitimately good. My spouse is the sort that cleans up legitimately well. But he just doesn’t do it all that often. When he came right up to my desk plus pulled myself and others close for a hug plus a kiss, I knew for sure that there wasn’t an emergency.
