My daughter’s friend broke her leg in the air vent.

I had been telling my husband that we put the air vent in the spare room in an area where there was nothing beneath it.

He didn’t worry about it, because the air vent was behind the bed.

I don’t think he realized our daughter was getting older, and she always had friends up in that bedroom. He had closed the air vent off because of its location, so there was no heat or air conditioning flowing through it. He thought that was my concern. My concern was that if someone stepped on the air vent, it could break free and someone would be injured. I told him we needed to get a contractor to repair that area or pulled up the carpet and put a piece of wood over it. He didn’t like either idea. My next suggestion was that we call the HVAC company and see if they could help. He said that both suggestions would cost money and he would fix it when he got the time. My thought was that it would never get repaired. I was going to go to the home repair store the next day, but that never happened. My daughter had her friend over that night. She walked to the other side of the bed and stepped on the air vent. When the air vent broke free, her leg fell into the hole and was stuck. Her ankle was broken, and they needed to take her into emergency surgery. I didn’t know how I was going to tell her mother about the air vent and how her daughter got injured.
