Many HVAC customers don’t regularly clean their own equipment

Clearly this is a step that cannot be missed.

Regular maintenance on HVAC equipment is very easy to perform by any homeowner. There are no special tools that are required and the simple process only takes about 30 minutes. You don’t have to be a trained professional to take care of your service equipment. One way that you can make sure that your HVAC system is maintained is by changing the air filter regularly. Regular maintenance on the air filter is monthly. You should change the air filter once a month to be certain that your system is clean and free of any debris or dirt that could cause problems. It is also important to clean the condensed drain line. This simple maintenance step is also very easy to perform. You simply find the main evaporator condensate line and pour warm water down the line. I add a small amount of vinegar or chlorine to the water to help get rid of any algae, mold or bacteria that may have formed inside of the tube. I always see results when I run water through the line. Clearly this is a step that cannot be missed. You can leave a reminder on your thermostat so you change the batteries every 6 months. When I change the batteries on my thermostat, I also change the batteries on the smoke detectors and the carbon monoxide detector. The battery certainly lasts longer than 6 months, but it’s important to have equipment that won’t shut off in the middle of the night. I would rather be safe than have the batteries fail in the middle of the night.
