The last place I wanted to be was in the hospital on Christmas. Well, one of my gifts was a portable heater. I wanted to use it right away along with one of my new blankets. I had myself covered with my blanket relaxing on my chair while I had the portable heater not too far away from me. It was so toasty and relaxing and I ended up falling asleep. Well, the next thing I know I was woken up to my blanket being on fire and I was burning up literally! A family member ran over with the fire extinguisher and was able to get out all the flames and carefully pulled the burnt up blanket off of me. I had severe burns and they rushed me to the hospital. Fortunately, the fire didn’t end up burning my face, but I had some nasty burns all around my body because I was covered with that burning blanket. Evidently, the heater was too close to my blanket and caused too much heating to the point where it burst into flames. My family members said they didn’t even smell the smoke right away, but when they did, the flames were really high and they felt like they would have heart attacks. Fortunately my nephew was the one who reacted the fastest and grabbed the fire extinguisher so quickly. If it weren’t for him, I’m sure the burns would have been so much worse. I actually appreciated the powerful A/C at the hospital and that first night was the most difficult. I have been discharged from the hospital though and my burns are healing pretty well now. One thing is for sure though, I will never use a portable heater again in my life.
