Working for my brother’s HVAC business

My brother made me his assistant.

My first job out of college, with my business degree, was for a local company before the pandemic started. The future was bright, and my plans were to scale the corporate ladder. But, who could predict what 2020 had in store for the world, when we ushered in the new year. By March 2020, I was unemployed, thinking about moving back home with my parents. Life was going downhill, and I remember talking about what to do next. My folks wanted me to stay home, but my older brother said there was no need. Several years ago, he started an HVAC business in the town I live in. It was one of the most sought-after heating and cooling businesses around. Instead of going home to wallow in my sorrows, he told me to move in with his family, and work for his business. This thought had never crossed my mind, since I had no interest in heating and cooling. But, my position wouldn’t entail actual heating and cooling servicing. My brother made me his assistant. The pay wasn’t bad at all. My job was to make his life easier in the office, since the heating and cooling company had grown rapidly. The first few weeks I was there were full of training on COVID protocols, and ensuring all heating and cooling systems technicians had the right protective gear, before going out on appointments. To be honest, I never thought I’d have so much fun working for a heating and cooling business, but two years later, I love it.
