We Needed A Generator To Run Our Furnace

During a major blizzard that came through the area, everyone’s power went out.

It happened in the middle of the night so nobody in our house noticed until the temperature started to drop.

Around 3am, one of my kids came into our room and told us that she was cold. It didn’t take long for our other daughter to come find us as well. Once we realized that our furnace wasn’t working due to the power outage, my husband got out of bed so he could go find the generator and get it running. I stayed in bed so I could snuggle together with my daughters in order to get some body heat. I heard my husband fire up the generator and our power came back on immediately. I heard the furnace start running and our home began to warm up. I remember my husband and I arguing over the generator a few years previously. I wanted to spend the money and get one because I feared losing heat during the winter. We experience rough winter conditions, and with our two kids, I didn’t want to be without a working furnace. My husband didn’t think we’d lose power that easily because it didn’t happen often. He told me that he could count on one hand how many times the power went out during a winter storm. After he fired up the generator during the power outage though, I made sure to let him know that I was right after all. We really needed a furnace when the temperature outside was below freezing and we didn’t have power.
