I was working for a company in the city before the pandemic.

This was my first job after graduating from college with a business degree. The future seemed bright, and I had ambitions to rise up the corporate ladder. But, no one could foretell what 2020 had in store for the world as we ushered in the new year. By April of 2020, I was out of a job, and thinking about moving back home with my parents. Life was getting pretty scary, and I remember speaking with my friends about what to do next. My folks wanted me to go home, but my older brother said there was no need to do so. He is the owner of a heating and cooling business in the same city I was living in. My brother had started this business many years ago, and it was one of the most sought-after heating and cooling businesses. Instead of going home to wallow in my sorrows, he told me to move in with his family, and work for his business. This thought had never crossed my mind since I had no interest in heating and cooling. But, my position wouldn’t entail doing the actual heating and cooling repairs, installation, and service. My brother made me his assistant, and the pay wasn’t bad at all. My job was to make his life easier in the office since the heating and cooling business had grown immensely. The first few months I was there were full of training on COVID protocols, and ensuring all employees had the right protective gear before going out on appointments. To be honest, I never thought I’d have so much fun working for a heating and cooling business, but two years later, I love it.

The trip was to last the entire Christmas break, so we made sure we shopped for enough food and supplies. Upon arriving at the cabin, we found it warm and cozy. Someone had come in earlier and made sure the oil furnace was warm so we’d enjoy a pleasant space the minute we arrived. Dad was so happy the rental agent had been honest about the amazing oil furnace that he promised to leave a stellar review when we got back home. The cabin also had a smart thermostat that made it so easy to set the temperature the entire time.

Alex and his friend had been talking about trying their hand at business.

Their focus was on vacation rentals. The two had traveled a lot during their college years, and got to stay in numerous vacation rentals. Such properties would bring in extra income for the owners, who were working other jobs. The two had even spoken to some owners and gotten insight into the business. Now that they were working good jobs and had money saved up for a business, they thought about dipping their toes into the vacation rentals world. Alex had gotten word of this small cabin that was for sale and came with 2 acres of land. The two friends jumped at the opportunity since this place had already been working as a vacation rental. He’s had this Landrover 110 for decades, and it’s still functional.

He’d once been stationed abroad, and this is the time he bought his priced vehicle. After returning to the states, he shipped it over, and continues to enjoy the off-road vehicle.
