I didn't make it to the game on time

My son has soccer games on Tuesdays and Fridays.

  • I rarely make it to the games on Fridays because of work, but I am there every Tuesday cheering as loudly as possible.

Last week the Tuesday game was on a Wednesday instead, because of a rain delay. The soccer field was drenched and soaked and it would have been impossible for the boys to play on Tuesday. I decided to go to the gym for an hour before the game, but I totally lost track of time. I didn’t leave the fitness center until it was time for the game. I felt terrible for missing the first part of the game and even worse when the game was delayed again. It was pouring rain when I arrived at the field and my son was sitting on the bench alone. I tried to explain the reason why I was late, but he wasn’t interested in listening to my excuses about the gym. I decided to take my son out for burgers at the sports bar. I never take him there, because he is still a little young. His eyes lit up when he realized we were going to an adult themed restaurant. He suddenly didn’t care that I missed the game and we spent the next two hours bonding over cheeseburgers and hot wings. It was one of the best times I can remember having with my son and one that I will never forget. We didn’t get home until bedtime, but my wife understood why we needed some bro time.
