So my partner and I sure had a surprise almost 18 months ago.

That was when my pal and I had the A/C tune up done early in the Spring.

That’s a wise choice around here given that temperatures in March can get to the upper 73’s during the afternoon at times. So we’ve constantly busy the Spring Heating, Ventilation and A/C repair early. But it wasn’t early enough as it turned out. This property needs a lot of work that I sometimes think is not with it. I may not be in a position to handle all the financial obligations involved. Having moved here after inheriting my grandparents’ wooden farm house, I had my work cutout for me. It’s definitely going to be a lot of work for me to change things around or even upgrade the farmhouse into a modern abode for me to comfortably move in. One of the things to do first is to work on getting a new cooling system installed. The old central HVAC system in this property had worked for 2 decades. It needed to be upgraded to a new modern HVAC system. Afterwards, I chose to buy a dehumidifier to help manage the humidity inside the house. Having lived in a particularly humid environment and knowing how to cope with severe humidity in the Summer season, I knew a humidifier would work. Summer can be exciting to look forward to especially after a prolonged cold season.

This applies mostly to Northern dwellers since the region has harsh weather conditions that free most of the time, at least 7 months a year.

For such areas, Summer brings bright orange colors to any environment. I currently reside in the south which is a complete opposite with hotter days. By the time it’s Springtime we are already preparing to transition into summer. It comes with feelings of annoyance. This happens weeks before we reach the peak of the Summer season in June/September. I like hiking too much so no weather condition can hold me back. The outdoors even gets to 90 degrees. This means that I will still end up hiking even when it’s hot. It is very annoying especially when you sweat too much. That’s why it’s a great idea to get extra water every time you’re going on hiking sprees in the Summer. Right now I’m tired because it’s already mid-June and as it seems I’ll have to wait for not less than a week to get the cooling system repaired. The HVAC company informs me that they are so packed to take up any HVAC projects just yet. They have been booked for several weeks already. Thinking of how to survive in a scorching house is unbearable. It’s not like you can buy a temporary solution like you would do with a furnace repair. While heating systems cost an average of at least $24 the cooling units are not as affordable. In fact many window ACs and other portable air conditioners are not less than $305. It seems as though my only option is to wait until my turn comes.

Living in apartment settings comes with its benefits and demerits.

Since my other option was to live in a dormitory for a few years, I chose a different residence which was an apartment.

But this is not always everyone’s choice as some of my friends that live in different housing settings are of a different opinion as to what is ideal. The lack of a backyard and garage are deal breakers for some. But then I love the fact that apartments have amenities that are lacking in many other homes. The only difference is when these homes have a pool or have provision for installing one.Otherwise, apartments offer convenience of choice as one can always move from one property to the next until they find what works for them. Additionally, an apartment complex like the one I live in does not only have a swimming pool but comes fitted with a gym too. To crown it all, in case anything goes wrong with your apartment the management steps in to sort it out immediately. The office will send the right expert to fix the issue once they get your call. They take off the stress of handling everything that you would otherwise have to be your responsibility. It doesn’t matter if you need something fixed quickly such as having the cooling system fixed. The manager responds quickly and will call the heating and cooling company who can either come the same day or early the next day. I am not sure this is what happens in all complexes, but at least my apartment building has such an arrangement of convenience. Unlike rental property where tenants are under agreement to take care of all repairs, apartment property owners handle this on their tenants behalf.

There are a few things that I’ve postponed for a long time. The passing of my uncle recently has left me struggling with bad thoughts all through the day. My uncle and I were very close when I was a kid. He would go out of his way to make sure I was comfortable especially when we went to family parties. He was my father’s brother and he did his best to step up and fill the void dad left when he died. To some extent my uncle was a father figure for all my life. Kids remember many things but mine was when we attended auction sales and garage sales with my parents.

We would go on bringing afternoons when the kids would be a few bucks to buy whatever they saw.

While my siblings focused on athletic stuff, I was more of a collector of unique finds such as action figures and speed toy cars. Garage sales and auctions had plenty of these. They ended up in such sales after families looked to dispose of them. Today, many years later, I changed to collecting more important things. My garage sales visits are slowly turning into an interesting event as I keep finding unique HVAC equipment. The last time I got a window cooling system at one of these garage sales as long as I kept looking. The fact that there are many such sales in this region makes it even easier for anyone to find something used at a good price. My neighborhood has a lot of these garage sales going on so they will be easy to I still go every weekend to one near me with the hopes that alI will lead to getting a window cooling unit that I am still looking for. It would be ideal for my pottery studio in the backyard of my house. This shed has a kiln so a window AC will help on those hot days that I must work in there. Temperature can spike and make it impossible to do any meaningful work. Sometimes they can get to highs of 76 degrees and this is not ideal especially in summer.
