I keep telling my husband that we need to have the furnace serviced.
I hear all about all the times when people forgot to have their furnace or air conditioning unit serviced, and they would end up with all kinds of problems.
My husband asks me if we have hot water. When I answer that yes we have hot water, he says service is done. I was getting tired of this comedic routine of his. I wanted to know why we had never had an HVAC technician come to the house and service our furnace. He took my hand and took me downstairs to the furnace room. I looked at all the plumbing and I must have made a funny face, because he laughed. He told me we had a boiler system. The fuel was used to heat the water that heated the house. As long as we had hot water, we knew the boiler was working well. It made some sense, but not a lot. I really didn’t understand what he was talking about, but I guess it was okay. I trusted this crazy man. He started to tell me that we didn’t have any ductwork in the house. A furnace needs ductwork for the heat to be spread throughout the house. He also told me that if we had ductwork, we could have central air conditioning in the house. Ductwork was important for central heating and air conditioning. I told him it was a good thing we had a boiler system instead of a furnace. We would have even less heat than what we have now. He laughed at me again.
